Egypt

Egypt is a lower middle income country with a tradition of substantial government involvement in the economy. Since 2005 the government has changed course and has made improving the business climate a priority. This resulted in a substantial rise in the WB Doing Business ranking from 141st in 2006 to 94th in 2011. One example is the number of procedures and days necessary to start a business: while an Egyptian entrepreneur had to complete 10 procedures and needed 34 days in 2005, he only needed 6 procedures and 7 days in 2010.
Egypt’s GNI per capita has gone from US $ 1310 in 2005 to US $ 2070 in 2010.
At this moment no activities are being undertaken between DECP and employers’ organisations in Egypt, but this may change in the view of recent developments.
