Mozambique is a least-developed country (LDC) facing a range of social and economic problems. Its GNI per capita increased from 250 US $ in 2005 to 440 US $ in 2011.
The government has tried to improve the business environment: while in 2005 starting a business would take 14 procedures and 153 days, those figures were 9 procedures and 13 days respectively in 2011. Nevertheless, Mozambique’s ranking in the Doing Business report dropped from 110th in 2006 to 139th in 2012.
