South Africa

South Africa is an upper middle income country with a GNI per capita of US $ 3,630 in 2005 growing to US $ 6,960 in 2012. Its WB Doing Business ranking has gone from 28th in 2006 to 39th in 2012. Starting a business has been made easier –from 9 procedures and 38 days in 2005 to 5 procedures and 19 days in 2012 – but enforcing a contract is now more cumbersome and takes much longer: from 26 procedures and 277 days in 2005 to 29 procedures and 600 days in 2012.
In 2007-2008 DECP has worked with Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), with the Confederation of Employers of South Africa (COFESA) and with the Middelburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
At this moment no activities are being undertaken with employers’ organisations in South Africa.
