Afghanistan

Afghanistan is facing a range of serious problems and a sluggish economy is one of them. There is ample room for improving the business climate. While in the 2006 World Bank Doing Business report it ranked 122nd it slipped to 160th in 2012. If e.g., an Afghan entrepreneur wants to have a contract enforced, he or she will need extreme patience since this would take an average of 1642 days as of 2011.

Afghan employers’ national and international interests are being represented by the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI). Therefore DECP, in cooperation with the International Training Centre of the ILO in Turin, organised a first training seminar in November 2008 for a group of ACCI staff and members on the subject of “The Effective Employers Organisation”.
DECP and ACCI concentrate in particular on capacity building. In June 2011 DECP and ACCI further underscored their cooperation by concluding a partnership agreement.
