Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a lower middle income country facing a range of political and economic problems.  It is trying to overcome the effects of 30 years of civil war and also the devastation caused by the 2004 tsunami.  Its GNI per capita increased from 1,010 US $ in 2005 to 1,990 US $ in 2010.

The business environment has worsened with Sri Lanka dropping from 75th place in 2006 to 102nd place in the WB Doing Business 2011 report: e.g. the time needed to enforce a contract has gone up from 440 days in 2005 to 1,318 days in 2010.

DECP has recently visited the Employers Federation of Ceylon (EFC) and is currently exploring opportunities for future cooperation.
