Armenia

Armenia is working towards the transformation of its economy into a market-oriented one. Its efforts are paying off given the rise of its GNI per capita from US $ 1120 in 2005 to $ 3100 in 2010. Its Doing Business ranking has gone from 46th in 2006 to 48th in 2011. The government undertook considerable reform efforts, such as the reduction of the number of days and the procedures it takes to start a business: an Armenian entrepreneur needed 25 days and 10 procedures in 2005, but only 15 days and 6 procedures in 2010.
Armenian employers’ national and international interests are being represented by the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia (RUEA), which was founded in November 2007. RUEA is a member of the International Organisation of Employers and DECP’s partner in Armenia. A Partnership Agreement was signed in September 2009. DECP and RUEA have above all worked together on the setting up of a national social dialogue. These efforts culminated in a National Conference on ‘social partnership’ in September 2010 organised in cooperation with the trade unions. Developing services for members such as on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is another important element in DECP’s and RUEA’s cooperation.
In 2011 DECP conducted a workshop on use of safety signs in companies. In addition DECP has co-financed the second National Conference on social partnership about OSH on 11 and 12 October 2011 in Yerevan.
