On 27 October, the Confederation of Employers of the Republic of Macedonia organized an important Conference on Food Safety in cooperation with the Confederation of the food and drink industries of the EU (CIAA), in the framework of the Business Support Programme funded by Europeaid.

The conference took place in the conference room of the Hotel Holliday Inn, and was attended by more than 60 participants.

On behalf of the CIAA, presentations were given by Mr. Giogio Bosetti Carcano, BSP-project manager of CIAA, about the importance of the food and drink industries in the EU, and by Mr. Mario Dongo, expert from Federalimentare, about food regulations in the EU, while Mr. Robert Kastner presented the experience of the Austrian Food and Drink Industries, after the accession of Austria.

Mr. Jean-Marie Standaert, special advisor of DECP, was invited to make a presentation about how to set-up a new Employers’ Organisation for the food and drink industries of the Republic of Macedonia.

After an animated discussion among the local representatives of the Macedonian Food and Drink Industries, the conference concluded to set-up in the coming weeks a new sector organization for food and drink industries and to start with servicing the members about the implementation of the HACCP in Macedonia.

DECP will follow carefully the foundation of this new employers’ organization and assist them in developing their services.
