On 24 and 25 January 2011, the Association of Employers of Burundi (AEB)  organised 2 conferences with representatives of the informal sector, especially from the fishery on Lake Tanganyika, and from the palm oil producers.

A first part of the conference contained a presentation of the AEB, explaining its organisation, aims and activities. This presentation was held by the secretary general, Mr. Gaspard Nzisabira. This was followed by a report about the informal sector based on a thorough enquiry during the previous weeks among those employers, by Mr. Pierre Ntirabampa. Next were Q & A sessions during which participants could express their questions and expectations from AEB. The study by the expert and the conferences were financially supported DECP.

Mr. J.M. Standaert, country manager of DECP, attended the conferences and organised the  debriefing with the organisers. He also reported about his findings to Mr. Jan van Renselaar, first secretary at the Bureau of the Dutch Embassy in Bujumbura.
