Mediation Skills Training

former DECP country manager Former colleague View profile

Our partner in Vietnam (VWEC) is concerned  about the growing social unrest  and notices a worsening of labour relations in Vietnam which is having a negative effect on the business environment and thus on the willingness of foreign companies to set up operations in Vietnam.  DECP will therefore start with a Mediation Skills Training (MST) for a number of our Vietnamese trainers in both North and South Vietnam. These trainings will be linked to industrial zones.

In preparation of the planned MST sessions  in September and November the DECP country manager last April facilitated a Training of Employers (ToE) in both HCMC (South) and Hai D’uong (North) which was carried out by our Vietnamese negotiation skills trainers. The objective of the ToE’s  was besides training negotiation skills of participants, to get acquainted with the DECP/ AWVN theory and skills which are not only basic to negotiation skills but also to mediation skills. Managers from both industrial zones will participate in the MST later this year in order to become so well acquainted with the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of mediation that they can operate as  first line ‘General Practitioners’ in the case of conflicts in the zones. If necessary  the can refer these conflicts to be dealt with by our Vietnamese Mediators/ Trainers, connected to VCCI/ VWEC.

In conclusion of the ToE participating managers were asked to feed us with real life cases of conflict, so that we can use these cases during our MST in September and November. The managers warmly welcomed this initiative of VCCI/ VWEC and DECP.
