From 22 till 27 March 2010 Jan Karel Bout of DECP visited the Nepalese capital Kathmandu. This to train -in cooperation with ITC/ILO- the boards of the Nepalese and Pakistan Federations on Lobbying.

The objective of the training was to contribute to capacity building of both federations in their core function of acting as voice of business and of the private sector, in order to create a better business environment. Originally, the trainings were scheduled for both countries separately; however, due to the safety situation in Pakistan, it was decided to merge both activities and to organise the training in Nepal.

As pre course work, the participants were invited to participate in a benchmarking exercise to identify their present situation on lobby and lobby strategy. The content of the training was based on the outcome of this exercise.

A total of 30 board and staff members of both federation participated with much enthusiasm in the training. In the comments made on the evaluation forms, the participants expressed their high satisfaction on the systematic presentation of the lobbying process.

During the stay in Kathmandu extensive talks were held by DECP with the Pakistani board members of the Employers Federation of Pakistan. The deliberations concluded the near future.
