In February 2010 the employers organisations at national level of the countries that constitute the East African Community (EAC) unanimously decided the foundation of an East African Employers’ Organisation (EAEO) to represent employers’ interests at EAC level. This EAEO was formally registered on September 12th, 2011.

On January 12 and 13 of 2012 a  two day workshop was held in Arusha in order to prepare a Strategic Plan for this newly formed EAEO, which will be based in the offices of the East African Business Council (EABC) in Arusha, Tanzania.

The execution of the strategic plan will be very much in the hands of the EAEO  coordinator in the closest possible cooperation with each of the member organisations and will act as a guide in the policy development of the EAEO towards the EAC.

Annex to the workshop there was also the first formal meeting of the EAEO Executive Council. The founding members unanimously appointed Mrs. Jacqueline Mugo, Executive Director of FKE (Federation of Kenya Employers), to be the first Chair and Dr Aggrey Mlimuka, Executive Director of ATE (Association of Tanzania Employers)  to be the Secretary General of the EAEO.

The position of EAEO Coordinator will soon be taken up by Mr. Salim Wa-Mwawaza who is presently employed by FKE.  The DECP welcomed the considerable progress  made in the development of the EAEO and wishes Salim Wa-Mwawaza well in his role as coordinator.
