On 20 and 21 February 2017 the 6th meeting of the South Asian Forum of Employers (SAFE), was held in Lalitpur, Nepal. The meeting was very well organised by the hosts, the Nepalese FNCCI. Representatives of five co-operating employers’ organisations participated.

We had extensive discussions on ‘vocational skills’ and it is clear that this issue will take increasing importance on the agendas of the organisations in the region. Presentations were made by representatives from DECP, EFC (Sri Lanka) and BEF (Bangladesh). SAFE will keep this issue on its agenda. The meeting also decided on strengthening communication between the members. For this purpose a working group has been set up.

SAFE will devote its next meeting (in February 2018 in Karachi; hosted by the EFP) to the issue ‘Contract labour & Migration’, that will be prepared by the Indian EFI. All partners in SAFE are confronted with the effects of migration in the region, so we can be sure that there will be again an in-depth discussion at the 2018 meeting.
